While fireworks lit up the sky across the country on the 4th of July, the ERCOT battery fleet was putting on a show of its own. On Independence Day morning, the fleet set a new charging record, pulling more than 10.5 GW off the grid. A few days later it topped its discharge record too, peaking at 11.7 GW. Records are becoming a habit for ERCOT storage, and California's fleet was not about to be left out of the celebration. In our latest market tracking battery report, we break down how both fleets are rewriting their record books this summer.
Figure 1 | ERCOT Battery Fleet Net Dispatch and Hub Real-Time Prices (July 3 – 9, 2026)
Figure 1, taken from our ERCOT Daily Battery dashboard, shows ERCOT fleet charging in blue and discharging in yellow, overlaid with real-time hub prices for the week of July 3rd. The pattern that jumps out is a familiar one: a steadily expanding fleet, paired with favorable summer conditions, pushes the daily peaks higher. With a few gigawatts of new batteries slated to arrive in ERCOT this summer, the fleet's average dispatch profile has taken a significant leap, and the full report digs into just how far the evening discharge and morning charging peaks have climbed month over month and year over year.
Figure 2 | CAISO Battery Net Dispatch and NP15/SP15 Real-Time Prices (July 2 – 9, 2026)
California's batteries were breaking records of their own the same week. Figure 3, from our CAISO Daily Battery dashboard, tracks the fleet's net dispatch alongside NP15 and SP15 real-time prices. On the morning of the 4th, the CAISO fleet reached 10.9 GW of charge, sitting just ahead of ERCOT's new mark, and on the evening of July 9th it dispatched close to 13 GW to surpass its own discharge record. The two fleets are now trading blows at the top of the leaderboard. The full report explores how their monthly dispatch profiles compare and where each one still holds the edge.
