Mitch Johnson is the Senior Director of Energy Market Fundamentals at Energy GPS, bringing over a decade of experience in energy market analysis and simulation modeling. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Oregon, where he developed a deep understanding of market dynamics, supply and demand, and economic theory – principles that underpin energy market operations.
Before joining Energy GPS in 2020, Mitch spent seven years at Energy Exemplar, where he built input databases for production cost models, gaining hands-on experience with the many factors that drive energy prices. He then worked at Avangrid Renewables, providing him with firsthand insight into decision-making in the renewable energy space. His expertise spans WECC supply and transmission dynamics, price formation, and the evolving role of battery storage in energy and ancillary markets.
Mitch thrives on challenging assumptions and uncovering insights that reshape conventional thinking. He is particularly fascinated by energy storage, recognizing its unique characteristics and its potential to disrupt market structures in profound ways.
