The month of September symbolizes the start of school for many and the notion of attending a fall sport event on a Friday night or over the weekend. It is also the last chance for some sort of heat event to move through a region as the daylight hours shrink quite rapidly throughout the month. The West is the target region for Mother Nature this week as she is delivering coastal Southern California heat along with a widespread cover of above-normal temperatures from Western Canada to the Desert Southwest.

The above chart displays the California population weighted average temperatures from September 2nd through the 12th with the 5th through the 7th displaying the hottest days seen within the Golden State in recent years, including topping that of the record setting month of July highs. The tipping point is tied to the heat showing up along the coastal area around the LA Basin as Burbank is tapping triple digits during the three-day block mentioned.
